You can’t run a guide service on public land for hunting. But you can rape and pillage out fish on public waters and pay nothing back !! Hmmmmmm. Re: The Outfitter/Guide Bill hit the SD Legislature today. This was spearheaded by the South Dakota Wildlife Federation and carried to the Legislature by Rep DeGroot.
"An Act to provide rulemaking authority for the licensure of fishing guides, hunting guides, and outfitters, and to provide a penalty."
This Bill requires that the GFP Commission develops a guide/outfitter license.
No matter how you feel about this Bill it's important to reach out to your local Legislators and let them know your thoughts. This Bill hasn't been assigned a date for Committe. However, it's never too early to reach out and let your voice be heard!

I'm okay with Fishing guides working for themselves, but it's the "Guide Services" (like in Chamberlain SD) that brag they have 37 guide boats. That's killing a publicly shared resource. I've heard so many people say "I don't take my family fishing in Chamberlain anymore. It used to be great, now it's all fished out". That's sad and bad for consistent, every weekend recreation revenue for local businesses. The same with fishing tournaments -- they come for a weekend, but ruin the fishing for average citizens the whole summer.
