The Dakota Indians killed 600 settlers. Innocent women, children, babies were raped, mutilated and killed. All because their annuity payment was late (due to the Civil War). Yes, they were starving. Do we now honor starving people that massacre their neighbors (and I mean neighbors only in the literal sense)?
